For some people, the iPhone 5 or 5s may seem intimidating to use to begin with. Perhaps you had an iPhone 4 or 4s and you have upgraded to a newer phone. Or maybe you’re converting from Android over to an Apple iPhone. In this case, you simply need to become used to the different interface of Apple and you’ll be a fan for life. This is a brief user’s guide to explain some of the features you can expect from your iPhone 5 or 5s.
How to Make a Phone Call
One of the first things you should know how to do with your phone is to make a phone call. You can simply click the phone icon, enter the number and click on the green call icon. It’s that simple.
Alternate Option
Another option, once you have contacts entered into your iPhone, is to tap on contacts. Click the contact name of the person you want to call. Then, tap their number to call them.
How to use iCloud
iCloud is cloud storage. It’s Apple’s way of helping you keep all your services in sync. To be in sync means that you can move back and forth between devices and expect to have the same information. For example, you can go between your iPhone 5 or 5s and your iPad and you will have the same files available if you are in sync. Apple iPhone 5 syncs automatically so long as your devices are connected to iCloud. By default, your iPhone 5 or 5s will back itself up to iCloud when charging. To set up iCloud for the first time, click the Settings icon on the home screen. Scroll down until you see iCloud and click on it. Next, you’ll need to enter your Apple ID and password before clicking Sign In. You should have an Apple ID and password if you are upgrading from another iPhone. If not, you’ll need to get one before you can set up iCloud.
Once you have logged in with your information, you can look at the list of iCloud features and choose the ones you would like.
How to use the App Store
App Store is a platform that delivers applications for your iPhone 5 or 5s. Applications, or apps for short, are applications to serve a specific purpose to the user. There is an app for just about anything you can think of or, if not, there will probably be one developed soon. To access the apps available in the App Store, click on the icon that looks like an A on the home screen.
The Featured Apps page will come up first, but you can search through the categories to find the specific app you want. Apps can be free or paid. Use the search box to find the apps you would like to use, and open the app page. Click Get and/or Install. You must enter your password to download the app. Please note: some apps may be paid!
How to use SMS
SMS stands for short message service. SMS are just text, no media. Usually you can send up to 160 characters to a phone. If it’s a message that is longer than 160 characters, it will automatically be broken up into multiple texts. If you are messaging other iPhone users, you can send unlimited text messages, videos, and photos to them. To start, click the Messages icon
After that click write. Choose the contact you wish to send a message to. Finally, type your message and click sendwhen you are finished.
How to Enter Contacts
Contacts are for the people to whom you speak regularly and want to keep in contact with. It’s comparable to a rolodex, but for your telephone. You simply enter the contact information for people you call regularly so you don’t have to dial their number every time you want to talk to them. To add contacts, tap Contacts.
Click + (Add new). Enter a first and last name for the person you wish to add as a contact. Then, add their phone number and any other information like their email address or mailing address. Once you’re finished, click Save.
How to use the Camera
Access the camera directly from the lock screen by swiping left. The app will open right away without the need to unlock your iPhone. Choose either photo or video. If you choose video, click on the start icon to start recording. When you are done recording, select the stop icon.
You can find your photos and videos on the Photos app icon which is on the home screen.
You will likely want to experiment with your phone’s camera to find out all the different features available. These are just a few of the features that the iPhone 5/5s has to offer. As you use the phone, you will find that there are many uses for your phone besides just being a telephone.
